Element Eden Advocate and spoken word/poet, Ishle Park is hosting a special evening of art and music with proceeds to benefit the victims of Haiti’s tragic earthquake. If you’re in Honolulu this Saturday, please drop in and share the aloha.

Eden Advocate Amber B was recently interviewed for art blog The Number 20. Read on for more of her wisdom and wit.
“As we are so lucky to have so many creative friends around us, we would like to introduce them to all of you. First one out is Amber B. Dianda. I met this talented girl in Australia back in 2002. She was already then doing the coolest things with her art. Photography, tailoring and whatever she could put together. She has come along way since then and she just continues to inspire us. We are proud to start of this series of posts on a very special Aussie.
INTRODUCE YOURSELF!
Amber B. Dianda (Photographer, Tailor & Creative Princess)
Your first job?
I grew up on a dairy farm so my brother and I always had jobs like getting fresh milk for the house and getting up before the sun to bring the cows into the dairy for milking but my first real job away from home was a waitress, which was a disaster… Thank God I’m creative cause I completely suck at everything else!
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in the hinterland of Queensland, Australia. My family were some of the first to colonize the Gold Coast, apparently we were ‘free settlers’ but knowing my family, I am dubiousness about this! Hehe!
What are you doing now and where would you like to be in 5 years?
I currently live in Southern California with my husband Kirk Dianda. I really love traveling and learning about unfamiliar places and meeting new people. My husband and I love our work and happily submerge our whole lives in it, so I guess we will be where ever our creative work takes us.
How come you’re so creative?
My mum was always very creative with fashion and my dad is an inventor at heart, while both my grandmothers were sewers so growing up I always had that hands on or DIY mentality. I would also have to say, the first time I saw Bjørk in her ‘Venus as a boy’ music video, it blew my mind as a teenager and the wonderment continues til today. Her lyrics and ability to invoke emotion like she does constantly inspires me to reach new levels in my own creativity and also to be unique and follow my own path, no rules…and to always fight for what is in your heart.
Play it forward! Please pick a song and tell us why you choose just this track.
I picked the song ‘Storm’ which was written and directed by Bjørk and Leila Arab. The song is part of a soundtrack from the movie ‘Drawing Restraint 9′ that was created by Bjørk in collaboration with her partner Matthew Barney. I love this song because it gives me goosebumps when you listen to it on headphones.”

Now a symbol of one of Dollhouse’s most sinister and poignant moments, the painting used in the Dollhouse episode “Belonging” is up for auction! Priya’s Original Painting, painted by the incredibly adroit artist Brooke Reidt, was commissioned specifically for the episode and is a must-have for any Dollhouse fan!
Bid on this exquisite piece of television history.
All proceeds from the auction go to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. The C.H.L.A is a nonprofit, academic, and pediatric medical center. They provide the highest quality healthcare for children who are the sickest and most seriously injured in the Southern California region.

While everyone is all rugged up and indoors for the winter, Pepa Prieto is out braving the elements deep in the mountains of Teruel, Spain.
Check out her beautiful brush strokes on the exterior of the ‘El Portillo’ restaurant while the snow flakes fall on the landscape around her!!

Reunion Island Coffee hosted the art fundraiser ONE LESS PAPER CUP at Unit cafe/bar in Toronto last month in which fifteen contemporary Canadian artists volunteered to donate their talents toward converting white ceramic cups into pieces of art. All proceeds from the fundraiser went to Grounds for Health – an organization that operates in the coffee growing communities of developing countries to give women with cervical cancer education, screenings and treatment. I was fortunate enough to be picked as one of their artists and gladly got right to work on the black and white mug and case in the photo above. The event was a huge success and managed to raise over $3000 for Grounds for Health. Thanks to Adam Pesce for producing and curating the event! Hello Element friends and family,
To bring in the New Year, my husband and I decided to visit the beautiful Santa Lucia Mountains of Big Sur also known as “el paîs grande del sur” (meaning “the big country of the south”).
It is breathtakingly beautiful, and one of the only places on Earth with a unique biodiversity, where you can walk among the huge Redwood forests within sight of Cacti on the dry mountain landscapes.
The first people to inhabit the area where the Ohlone, Esselen and Salinan Native American tribes. These tribes were nomadic, hunter-gatherers that spent the winters on the coast harvesting mussels and abalone, then traveling inland for the to harvest oak acorns during summer which was used to make flour.
Big Sur is renowned for the bohemian lifestyle it attracts, and many famous artists, photographers, poets and writers have been inspired by its allure… Edward Weston, Henry Miller, Hunter S. Thompson and Jack Kerouac just to name a few.
Here are a couple of photos that I took on our travels…
Hope that the new year brings you lots of love and happiness; 2010 is gonna be awesome!

“Glamour Mag invited me to collab in the January issue and this is the illustration I did for them. The theme was the representation of my country (“sunny”…España) as head of the EU parliament…so I decided to work with the letter “ñ” as is unique from our language just like the Spanish omelette or like the yummy croquetas! Muchas gracias Glamour Mag!”
