THE GARDEN PARTY OF EDEN-ETTE, Hossegor, France.

To celebrate the end of the summer in true Eden style, Element Europe hosted a Garden Party. Special guests and media were invited to experience a taste of the Element Eden ambiance and check out the European Spring 10 Collection.

Having recently met the inspiring Les Ettes ladies and mutually recognized the shared charisma, passion, intellect and charm of the two brands, we decided to co-host a party that would create an atmosphere naturally exuding the character upon which both Element Eden and Les Ettes are based upon.

The garden of Le Surfing restaurant situated by the Estagnots beach in Hossegor, France was transformed into a magical ‘Garden Party’ setting and an original Air Stream caravan was customized into a Showroom.

Live music, tones of confetti, helium balloons, bunting flags, bright sparklers and many wonderful friends created an unforgettable evening.

Many thanks to Les Ettes, the Element family and Le Surfing team who worked so hard to ensure that the evening was such a stunning success.

Amber B for Smile on Your Brother

AmberB-Smile

Element Eden Advocate Amber B is an Australia native and has served as an inspiration and ambassador for the brand since 2006. Her whimsical sewn creations have traveled the world and her most recent endeavors have brought her to Canada as part of the “Smile on Your Brother” exhibition. Sponsored and curated by Contributor, this traveling show has brought together skateboard art by some of the industry’s leading artists with the goal of raising money to distribute skateboards to disadvantaged youth across Canada. Here is Amber’s experience in her own words:

How did you become involved with the Contributor cause?
“Smile On Your Brother” was co-curated by Mike Giles and Annie Lam from the Canadian charity CONTRIBUTOR and Bob Kronbauer of Club Mumble. They invited a selection of international artists, and I was lucky enough to be asked to be part of this project.

“Smile On Your Brother” raises money to give skateboards to disadvantaged youth – how did this vision speak to you?
For me skateboarding was about freedom to do and go where I wanted to as a kid, but I also love the aspect that skateboarding teaches you to push yourself, to learn new things and keep achieving to be better. This is a wonderful lesson that empowers people at any age. Giving children an opportunity to take up skateboarding is a wonderful outlet that exercises their mind and body. Skateboarding can be a social experience or an escape, all of which that can be done almost anywhere.

What’s the inspiration behind your board design?
We were all given these beautiful, hand crafted, vintage shaped, oak skateboards to customize how ever we wanted. A modern skateboard shape is commonly referred to as a popsicle because of its resemblance to a popsicle stick, so I wanted to play with that concept. And so, I sewed the board into an actual popsicle. Yes, it’s literal, but I loved the idea of combining the childhood memories of skateboarding and ice cream.

Your creatures often have wonderful names – does this latest little guy have one?
Yes, his name is “Neo Popsicle”. “Neo” meaning new, but also being short for Neapolitan ice cream.

What will be the next exciting project from Amber B?
At the moment I’ve been working on a lot of private commission jobs which I’ll post here and there on the Eden blog for you guys to check out. I also have a couple of group shows coming up, some fun photo projects, and most exciting, is a solo show next year. So I am currently up to my ears in sewing.

Lisa Solberg for aStory

LisaInterview

Element Eden Advocate Lisa Solberg was interviewed for aStory magazine – an internal trade publication for the action sports industry. The mag isn’t available on newstands, but we wanted to share the love – check out the transcript of her interview here:

How much time do you spend marinating?
No marinating at all. I see a big open canvas and if I am feeling it, I start making moves on it. I never have the end image or goal in my head. I start and deliver until completion. It’s a commitment thing. I always tell my friends, once I put that canvas up, there’s no real sleeping or stopping until it’s finished. I can’t even have cohesive conversations with people when I’m in the process. I’m totally lost in the world of my painting. It’s nice when I finish. It feels like a huge burden lifted off my shoulders, and I’m left feeling totally exhausted.

Describe a typical day for Lisa Solberg – the portrait of the artist of a day. Do you paint every day, or does life make a habit of getting in the way?
Life for me is experiencing and then expressively creating – so whether it gets in the way of actual ‘painting’ doesn’t really matter – the end product is always in the form of a work of art. I most definitely spend a lot of time painting. I also spend a lot of time not painting. However, when I’m painting, it’s one hundred percent necessary and I pump it out. It’s very natural, very immediate, very raw. I release everything. On my off days I am usually exploring somewhere, meeting someone, in the ocean or recovering from a night out. I like to go to the public library downtown in Los Angeles and work in my sketchbook and practice backwards calligraphy. I like to do everything in odd number days. These kind of things fill my days.

Are you inspired by the walls of your studio, or do you need to get out to find ideas?
Both. Big open spaces always inspire me. I’m totally O.C.D. I need everything very clean and open in order to be messy and expressive with my work. I also need to get fresh air and experience the world around me in order to get ideas. It’s a two-part process. First, getting out–whether it is Indonesia or skid row–and then thinking about nothing and seeing everything appear on the walls of my studio. Both are integral parts of the process.

Most importantly: What’s your favorite color?
1. Green  2. White  3. Gold

Favorite number.
1. 11   2. 3   3.23
