The Harmony Sweater – Get it HERE!
November 07 2012
Everyone posted some rad painting, photo, street art, and still life shots… But we had to pick just one of you little creatornators as the proud winner of a $500 shopping spree with Element Eden.
Proud to announce Katie Mclean, 21 year old graduate of Otis college of Art and Design, as our Create and Cultivate contest winner. She posted multiple masterpieces, featuring her eclectic, sensual, and naturally captivating vision through painting. We’re truly blown away and inspired by your beautiful style.
The extent of her work wanders much farther than paintings – scope her stuff on http://gypsyeye.com/ and @gypseye805
Can’t wait to see where your wanderings take you Katie and on behalf of the Element Eden family thanks for getting us inspire-wired!
When Element Advocate Amy Purdy told us that she was going to be embarking on an adventure of a lifetime (which we later found out was “The Amazing Race”),we were in the midst of designing her newest LLG Collection. So when we heard the news, Amy and the Eden Designers scrambled to make magic happen, and alas, our very own amazing race had begun.
After countless cups of coffee, and days blending into nights, it all came together, and just in the knick of time… Amy was heading out the door to compete, half-way around the world, in… China?! What?! Needless to say, we are on the edge of our seats, and cheering her on. Amy is an inspiration, and with her story of endurance and strength, she truly knows how to overcome any obstacle.
“Get outside, smell the trees, and take in the fresh air…” – Amy Purdy, Element Eden Advocate

Element Advocate and artist, Miya Ando, may be most well-known for her intricate metalwork, implementing steel and pigment to create beautifully hand-crafted pieces. However, this past May, she took her artistic ability to Dorado, Puerto Rico, and participated in “Obon,” a 24 hour outdoor art installation sponsored by The Fist Art Foundation. This project celebrated the ancient Japanese festival of “Obon,” a ceremony to honor and commemorate the departed.
To represent Puerto Rico’s natural phenomenon of bio-luminescence and boat travel, Miya incorporated hundreds of floating leaves on an outdoor pond that appeared clear in daylight and emitted a soft blue light in the dark. The project involved skeletons of Ficus leaves, which are abundant and native to Puerto Rico.
Miya coated each Ficus leaf with a non-toxic, ‘daytime invisible, night time luminous’ phosphorescent pigment, which “charged” with sunlight during the day, and emitted a soft blue glow for a short period of time during the night, making it appear as if each leaf was glowing. We can only imagine how peaceful and beautiful this installation was to see in person!
Elizabeth Olsen was rocking the Element Eden Alps shorts on her set of Very Good Girls in New York City, this week. She takes this fall staple and makes it perfect for summer with a sleeveless top, flowy scarf, and some cute ankle booties! These shorts are a must have for all seasons, if we do say so ourselves!
I was lucky enough to experience Element YMCA Skate Camp in the Sequoia National Forest this past weekend. It was a magical place abundant in tall trees, lakes, beautiful rivers, and mountains, lots of mountains. And right smack dab in the middle of all this beauty was a camp where kids from all over the world come together to share their one true passion with one another: skateboarding. Skate Camp is a dream come true for these kids who come to skate, create, learn and grow.
I was so happy to have been able to add this to my list of adventures with Element.
Miya Ando morphs her steel paintings with her first ever product design, “Tetsu to kinu,” an “iron and silk” scarf made of 100% silk chiffon and dye! The magical effect that her steel sculptures have on viewers carries on into her ethereal silk scarf, into a beautiful design of wearable art!
Even more beautiful is the fact 10% of proceeds will be donated to benefit Japan’s earthquake and tsunami recovery, still underway! The scarf is only available for a limited time though on Spoon & Tamago, sale closes on July 15th, so get yours quickly!
